Surfing the net the other day, I came across a website for men, and about their take on relationships, problems, questions, answers…you get the drift. In one post one man has philosophised that men shouldn’t say the three golden words, ‘I love you’ to their wives. The story went that the first time he had said those words to her she had been so happy, that he had been moved to repeat them again and again in order to see that bliss on her face.

This is a question many single men and women would like to know the answer to. Obviously, the term “settle” has some bad connotations. It makes us think of accepting something that is less than the very best in order to avoid winding up without anything at all. After all, as the music comes to an end in a game of musical chairs, the players can’t afford to be fussy about what chair they plop down in; it’s grab a chair, ANY chair, or lose.

We should never underestimate the effects of the national day of love—Valentine’s Day—on even the most unlikely of people. Case in point: my husband. Now he can be a pretty sweet guy when he wants to be; he’s been known to bring home surprise gifts, write love notes, and text poetry. He also frequently comes out with odd romantic declarations out of the blue, once for example, swearing he loved me with all the fierceness of a thousand angry ground squirrels. But on one subject my husband has remained unswervingly adamant, and that subject is Valentine’s Day.

We have all been spun a line, we have all been told such a bad pick up line that it makes us want to crawl up in a ball. Pick up lines are a sad and funny part of dating, it could be the path to true romance or it could be the path to the dumping ground. It doesn’t matter what age we are, we have all heard them or possibly worse, actually used them on other human beings! We have all heard pick up lines that make us want to laugh so uncontrollably that it gives us stitch in our sides.
