Sometimes I wonder if we go a little overboard today with the need to constantly have new things. We are forever throwing the old out to make room for the new. Whether it’s our clothes, our furniture, or our houses, we just can seem to stay content with owning the same thing for long. Once the temporary thrill wears off our latest purchase, there’s nothing for it but to go out and buy something new so we can get that excitement back again. The disposable mindset of our society seems to have affected even our relationships with other people.

What is the strongest illusion in the world? The first thing that comes to mind is an image, sight. But I believe that the strongest illusion is touch. It is the illusion that truly makes magic in the world. It is what makes us human, it is what gives a body to the soul and it is what defines our love and longing for other people.

Among many of the single men and women out there looking for a relationship, there is one characteristic we frequently see shared. They are not alone because they haven’t had their chances. In the typical case, any given single may have many opportunities at romance; it’s finding an offer they’re ready to take up that can be the problem. Why is it so many people admit they are unhappy being out of a relationship, yet they drag their feet at entering into a new one?

With the attractive, but sometimes unrealistic portrayals of love and romance we often see in books and on movie screens today, sometimes it can be hard to know where to draw the line between fantasy and reason. Does love-at-first sight exist? Maybe not, but it’s a pleasant, romantic thing to believe in whether or not its entirely realistic. Do most newly married couples today have only about a 50/50 chance of staying married?

Today, the Valentine’s Day has become synonymous with romantic love. Behind the glossy emotions plastered over the bill-boards, this day still retains the legend associated with it. The story would have us believe that a man defied the Emperor to unite lovers and bind them in holy matrimony. Now, his martyrdom marks the day when lovers, young and old, pledge their affection to one another and shower each other with tokens of their love. Of course, much of the excitement is generated by the promotional campaigns that make it almost a sin to treat this particular day as any other day.

The mention of Medieval Times brings about visions of Knights in Shining Armor, often saving a beautiful young Maiden from the flaming jaws of a great Dragon...Or possibly, a mentioning of the times brings about thoughts of beautiful Castles gleaming in the sun...while I just KNOW that in one of those tall towers dwells a Sleeping Princess..just waiting for the kiss of her true love to wake her. As the fairy tale would have it, the couple would then live "happily ever after" and the kingdom would flourish in the wake of such magical love and utter happiness.
