On the first few dates you step out on, if you don’t know your date well there are probably specific things you have in mind that you’re hoping to learn about him by the end of the night. At this stage you’re still measuring each other up, still trying to figure out whether there could be a relationship here worth pursuing. It doesn’t sound very romantic, I know, the idea of approaching a date with that kind of goal. But the truth is there’s nothing wrong with this. It makes sense to want to know early on what you’re getting into. And let’s face it. The very idea behind a date is getting to know a person well enough to figure out how compatible you are before an actual relationship can begin. And this is a quest we can all use a little help with. Sometimes it can be confusing, trying to separate the studs from the duds. So below are three clues ladies might find helpful when judging a date. Guys, you might won’t to see this too. It’ll give you some clue as to what mistakes to avoid if you want to impress your date.

#1. Does he tip and as if so, how well? This is a sure way to judge a man’s generosity. Chances are, if he doesn’t leave a tip (which is more or less considered obligatory nowadays) to a stranger who waits on him, it’s not a far leap to imagine he’s not going to prove too generous in the future toward the lady in his life. Men’s issues with money often carry over into their emotional lives as well, so before getting yourself into anything with a penny-pinching jerk, you might want to think it over.

#2. Is he polite to the server? If he’s arrogant and rude, or just plain short to the pretty little lady serving him dinner in a restaurant, just imagine how he’s gonna act ten years down the line when you’re the lady serving his supper? Not a pretty thought.

#3. Does he hit on the waitress? This is a pretty obvious no-no on a date, of course. Now matter how big a jerk he may be, it’s unlikely a guy’s gonna be dim enough to flirt with a waitress right in front of his new date. It happens though, and if it does, show him the door. There are too many nice guys out there to waste your time with one who has so little respect for you.
